A delicious Middle-Eastern inspired recipe for Zaatar Meatballs with Green Tahini Sauce
Ingredients
1 lb ground turkey, beef, chicken or lamb
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon The Spice Apothecary Za’atar + 1 teaspoon to top meatballs
1 teaspoon lemon zest
3 finely chopped scallions
3 minced garlic cloves
1/2 cup chopped herbs such as parsley, dill or cilantro
1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes
Freshly chopped jalapenos for serving, if desired.
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Lightly toast the Za'atar seasoning in a dry pan for 30 to 40 seconds to release the aromatics.
Add ground meat, kosher salt and Za’atar seasoning to a bowl and mix. Add lemon zest, scallions, garlic, fresh herbs and chili flakes. Combine well.
Scoop the prepared meat mixture into small meatballs onto a pan lined with parchment & sprayed with cooking oil.
Evenly space meatballs on tray and sprinkle with a bit of Za’atar seasoning. Bake for 25 minutes until cooked through.
Serve with rice, pita or naan bread alongside Green Tahini Sauce & freshly chopped jalapeno.
Green Tahini Sauce (Grahini)
2 tablespoons lemon juice
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1-2 garlic cloves
1 cup fresh herbs such as parsley, cilantro and/or dill
1 teaspoon kosher salt
½ cup of tahini, well mixed
Combine all of the ingredients in a blender until smooth. Taste and reseason with additional salt if necessary.
